Having removed cat bladder stones: Questions about food?
My poor kitty has bladder stones removed today (through surgery, obviously). Welfare has been dry food for over a year (after he was first diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. ultrasound was not given at that time, though, so that the stone might well have been there all the time, I guess). Here is a link to the food well, for more information: Questions http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/cat_wellness_dry_index.html: * I can still give this particular type of food? Is supposed to be one of the best and promotes urinary tract health. * * I know that the vet is going to push Hill Science Diet C / D in me, but I've heard and read from many sources that this food is not only good at all. Any experience here? * Also, I have only given wet food from now? I am very worried about my male kitten. Any help is appreciated at all. Thanks for your help.
SophiasMama Hello! As you probably know that there are three types of rocks affect the bladder. Are struvite, uric acid and oxalate. I do not think that the type of stones that your cat is producing that dictate the type of diet that you want give. Well I use wet food, as it contains no grains, as grain is not required for cats as they are obligate carnivores, and, moreover, the grain may establish a condition of pH that promotes these stones. For good information on these conditions, here are two excellent links. http://www.acreaturecomfort.com/cathealth.htm http://petcaretips.net/why_bladder_stones_form.html I recently had a short hair national sterilization developed struvite. She refused welfare and the only food I ate was luxury feline (gulp) and while I was not thrilled with their choice of food, I did not have many options such as obtaining food in it was most important. Apparently, the flavors they had used a bit of grain in the formula. Once carried out the food and gave him a luxury Forumula party without grain, and had a course of Baytil to cover any infection that may have been the beer, their stones completely disappeared and never returned. You may be in disagree with me, but despite being brand dry food is probably one of the best on the market, and made me read the ingredients, dry food was actually designed for the convenience of humans rather than nutritional needs, fluid of cats. Since that was only dry food, which may be one reason why Stones also are being developed. Wet food contains a high percentage of liquid and can help clean your system chrystals more. I would suggest, a After recovering from his surgery to try him on a diet of wet food (well I only use chicken or Turkey now) and maybe add a little liquid food additional. My East has my adding a little hot water for their food, which not only reflects the aroma, but also gives a bit more consistency wet. You are so good about the products of the hills. That actually is a very poor nutritional quality, and do not let your vet to push around. My vet not to carry their goods around, and basically just takes being. She is a holistic veterinarian and believes that good nutrition is the root of health. If you have a holistic vet in your area, you might consider consulting with them as they have some very good ideas about nutrition, sadly to say only is offered in vocational training centers, basically, at a day or two, and also many of the courses are provided by personnel of the trading company of pet food of … to know where I'm going with this. You might think it would be a very important part of their education, eh? For an excellent article on nutrition cat, Dr. Lisa Pierson has written what I believe is the gold standard. http://www.catinfo.org/ What I'm reading about urinary tract problems in cats, there is a controversy going on about a normal protein diet compared with a diet low in protein. Some veterinarians are talking about a normal diet protein that has moisture in the product is preferable. Trust me I did a lot of research when my girl developed these stones. Good luck with your kitty. I know how difficult it is to worry about them because they can not talk to us about how they feel. I wish all the best for a speedy recovery for him. Please keep us posted of your cat. Thinking of him and sending prayers. Http://frequentlyfeline.blogspot.com/ Troublesniffer
