Pressure Cuff Adult

Pressure Cuff Adult
why do bloodpressure cuffs vary their readings based arm diameter/cuff ratio?

If a cuff is a regular size adult cuff, and it is placed on a patient who has a large arm diameter, it will read higher. But if you put a large cuff on the same arm, the pressure will be less. What makes the difference, through physics?

Thanks and God bless.

the basic answer is that the smaller diameter cuff is the wrong size and therefore not as accurate. thats why there isnt a one size fits all cuff.

the smaller cuff dosent cover enough area of the arm and will give a higher reading, because there is more tissue/fat/muscle mass to read through.
