Stay at home moms … I need ideas on what to do with my 19 months old!?
I checked our local library web page story time. They had a weekly all winter long, which ends March 2. I can take it to the last, at 9:00 am, however, I work till 1:00 last night, so we'll see. I also checked our Health And Wellness Center for playgroups. All we have is the sports Children from 5 years old. I hope to find something for the children of his age to interact, and their mother. I am also looking for low cost or free ideas preferably in the afternoon after a nap because my work schedule. Any suggestions? We have a zoo, museum or YMCA here. I live in NY in a town of about 22,000. All we have here is shopping and restaurants. Our church has a MOPS group that meets at 9:00, however, do not get to bed until 02 am which will to be a challenge since our church is 30 minutes away. I'm looking for ideas in the afternoon. We do go to the park and again when the weather improves.
By I suggest evening meetings of nature. A child this age will be open for you and everything you say and absorb like a sponge to exposure to other children who are sub- everyone is your child at this age. I started at age 2 with my 4 children and I am now with my grandchildren. It's easy to go anywhere in half an hour to 2 hours day by taking advantage of what is available where you live. You can be talking about a flower, a leaf, clouds, water, an animal (do not know what is in your area but we spent ages looking at the fish, dogs, donkeys, crabs, etc) the sky, moon, stars. My 2 year old knows the difference between the oleander and hibiscus, and can count the stars in 2 languages (up to 10 only!) are aware of the stages of moon. They are fascinated by the smallest elements of nature, even the ants in the house to lead a discussion about respect for life (try not to kill them). While listening to most of the time, they take you amaze me with everything and it preserves with some repetition and enthusiasm not diminished. They are geniuses and I'm not, but I take the trouble to know certain things, like when the full moon is simple biology of plants and animals, and together they share the wonders of the natural world. Seeing them see for the first time offers more than enough to enjoy keep it going.
