Is there less oxygen in a steam room ?
I am speaking of an enclosed steam room, with aprox. 90% humidity, at 45 C, and possible humidex of 93 C.
Atmospheric pressure, 666 meters above sea level.
I cannot seem to answer this question and its driving me crazy !
The reason I ask is that I have been measuring and understand how my heart beats faster in a consistent manner while in a steam room , but the net says this is completely because of the heart trying to push blood to the outer skin in attempt to cool my body.
It is possible that there is less oxygen in the steam room: All heat baths should be vented to allow for constant air exchange inside of them. This is primarily so the bathers inside don’t asphyxiate.
It is possible that the steam room you are using is not getting the correct air exchange: It could be that a residential unit was installed in a club, a faulty fan, or that it was installed incorrectly. Medical professionals have noted this potential problem, especially in the states.
However, the information you’re finding on the net is correct. In response to the elevated skin temperature, your pulse will increase to dissipate the excess heat. It should rise to about the same level you experience when you are taking a brisk walk.
