College / University: Looking for a school in the city w / good art program in PA or OH preferabley FL?
I am an artist looking to get in Graphic Arts, but also need to have a studio art class too. I want to be able to study other things maybe even something like the health and welfare while attending (aka not want to be tied to only art incase my plans to enter after graduation through) I'd go in Ohio Pennsylvania or Florida. I especially like some of Floriday because I havent found any. I am open to other states as well. Ideas?
Sounds like you're looking for a college or university and not an art school and you are looking rounded general education, good too. Three schools are consistently recognized for the best graphic design programs are not schools of art are: North Carolina State University, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Illinois at Chicago Penn State is oriented illustration of these, but also has had great graduates over the years. The Ohio State program has also been good. Some of the above call their graphic design programs, some call it visual communication. Same thing. In the search for a strong graphic design program, find courses specifically in typography and graphic design history. It's a pretty safe bet that the best schools will have these courses and others do not. If you are accepted to a good program a good school, and is doing well and excited about the design, the chances of getting a good job are very strong. Having a college education can make a designer stronger and because you'll have a wider knowledge base in other areas to take advantage of both concepts and to give a common to talk with customers and understand their needs. Good luck!
