A question for atheists?
I was wondering, since you do not believe in a soul, how you feel about Alternative Health And Wellness are some techniques? For example, acupuncture is based largely on the theory of Chi – universal life energy, or whatever. Acupuncture seems to work, but people in the West have not actually discovered why. Anyway, what I was really asking is, do you, or you, make use of some alternative medicine techniques? Or atheists strict advocates of Western medicine, not alternative medicine use in any form? If you use alternative medicine, what kind would you use? Reki? Massage? Oils essential? Acupuncture? Also, how do you feel about meditation?
Hi, Your question seems to be aimed at the scientific atheists, ie, the type of atheist who has absolute faith in the ability of science to produce truths about the world we live in and the land for knowledge. This kind of atheist, which Richard Dawkins is a good example, only accept as true the hypotheses that have been confirmed by observation of material reality (the reality that affects our sense bodies and the extent of these bodies are scientific instruments). What the scientific atheist oppose then are the truth claims unfounded made by practitioners of alternative medicine. Until these people provide a causal explanation that certifies treatments "that its salutary effects in humans human must be treated with suspicion. The theory proposed by the scientific atheist relies on the placebo effect (the body's ability to heal itself), according to them, alone can explain the effectiveness of some of these therapies. So meditation, acupuncture and reiki are kosher, as long as those who take these courses treatment have no illusions about its real power to cure diseases.
